Designed in 1940 by the world renowned Naval Architect Phil Rhodes, the penguin's popularity continues to grow, thanks to strict class design and construction regulations and an enthusiastic group of sailors. Originally used for solo frostbite racing through the winter months, it soon became a popular summer series racer for two. Today's Penguins haven't changed significantly since the first wooden boats were built, but, unlike their predecessors, the new Bristol Seacraft boats utilize state of the art fastening and coating systems to ensure many years of maintenance free sailing. Each one is meticulously crafted in Mahogany by hand in our Bristol, RI millshop. From there, they undergo fairing and finishing with Awlgrip catalytic varnish and paints. With state-of-the-art hardware by Ronstan and mast & boom by Zephyr, you can rest assured that your new Penguin will not only race at the head of the fleet but last for many, many years. Standard (Awlgrip) colors are Flag Blue, Sunfast Red and Snow White. The standard painted interior is Whisper Gray. All floor boards and trim are varnished. http://www.penguinclass.com/ |
